Obama wins Peace Prize

U.S. President will obtain the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize for his work following a nuclear-weapons free universe and a more-inclusive fashion of diplomacy.

The Norwegian Nobel Committee mentioned Obama’s “exceptional efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and alliance between individuals” as the justification for providing the U.S. president its greatest honor after only nine months in office.

The award announcement comes at a time when the popularity in public opinion polls of Obama has begun to stabilize following a steep drop and his policies led to raucous protests. The White House was the target this week of anti-war protesters demanding Obama draw troops out of Afghanistan and Iraq.

Last week Obama had been granted an international rebuke when his attempt to convince the International Olympic Committee to award the 2016 Olympics failed. Chicago dropped in the first round of voting that ended up providing the Olympics.

However, the Nobel committee said its own attention was merited by the grander vision to the planet of Obama.

“His diplomacy is based in the notion that those who are to lead the world should do so on the basis of principles and attitudes that are shared by nearly all the planet’s population,” the committee stated.

He is the third sitting U.S. president chosen to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. Teddy Roosevelt was honored in 1906 and Woodrow Wilson won in 1919. Once he won the 2002 Peace Prize Jimmy Carter was out of office.

Even the Nobel Peace Prize includes $1.4 million, a golden medal and certificate. The award will be officially presented Dec. 10.
